Student networks with state legislators and envisions future skilled trades career

Emma Tan grew interest in the STEM field because of the Career Learning Link program at Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC). The program introduces high school students to careers through Work-Based Learning, job shadowing and mentoring. In February, the student joined a NICC delegation for the Community College on the Hill event at the state capitol where she shared her career ambitions and story. Click the link to learn more.

Rock Valley MFG Day Tours

On Tues, October 16th Valley Machining in Rock Valley opened its doors to approximately 240 area middle and high school students and teachers for Manufacturing Day. What’s Manufacturing Day? Per the website www.mfgday.com, it’s “a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers”. The official day for the event is celebrated on the first Friday in October, but quite often events are happening across the nation throughout the month of October - such is the case with Valley Machining. Schools attending included: Central Lyon, George-Little Rock, MOC-Floyd Valley, Netherlands Reformed, Rock Valley, Western Christian, West Lyon, West Sioux, Rock Valley Christian and Alcester, SD.
